Mezzonome: editorial wedding and portrait photographer in Lake Tahoe and Northern California

mezzo

Italian. The middle; the in-between.

The half-light after the vows. The breath before the first look. That is where a wedding actually lives, and where I work.

Mezzonome, said METZZO-nohm.

Weddings

From Lake Tahoe to the foothill vineyards. Unhurried and observant, and quietly directed when the light asks for it.

Editorial

Styled and fashion work. Years of runway and editorial shaped how every Mezzonome photograph is lit, directed and finished.

For venues and planners

Each year I produce a small number of styled editorials with venues, planners and designers across Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Foothills. You receive finished imagery for your own marketing, and the work is prepared for publication.

About the photographer

Afshin, the photographer behind Mezzonome, smiling, chin resting on one hand

Fashion and runway taught me how a photograph should hold itself. Weddings taught me why it matters.

Mezzonome lives between the two: the composure of an editorial and the honesty of a documentary. I compose each frame as if it were going onto a magazine page, then wait for the moment that makes it true.

Based in Auburn, in the Sierra Foothills, I photograph a limited number of weddings each year across Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, Napa and Sonoma, and portraits closer to home.

Start a conversation

The commission

Some photographs are meant to be held.

On the day, you won’t think about your photographs at all. You’ll be present, with the people you love, in the moment you came for. Everything else is mine to carry, from our first conversation to the album resting on your shelf.

Portrait sessions end with a private reveal, where we sit together and choose your prints and collections without hurry. Weddings begin with a conversation. Once I understand what your day asks of me, I shape the commission around it and quote it privately. Every photograph is finished by hand, and every one is yours to print and share.

You leave with something you can hold, and one day hand down: an heirloom album, designed and bound by hand, and fine-art prints on archival paper, made to order for the walls of your home.

  1. i.

    A conversation

In person in the foothills or by video. The place, the people, and the pace you want the day to have.

  2. ii.

    Planning around the light

A timeline built with you and your planner around where the light will be, so portraits happen at the right hour rather than the convenient one.

  3. iii.

    The day

Quiet, attentive coverage. Directed when the light asks for it, invisible when it doesn’t.

  4. iv.

    The archive

A finished, hand-edited collection and an heirloom album. Artwork for the home, made to outlast the hard drive.

Wedding commissions begin at $8,500.
